Eye Empire / Skitzo Calypso - HOR

On this rainy Friday night the weather may have been dreary outside but inside of the HOR the crowd was ready to rock with a hand full o’ local openers and national headliner Eye Empire.

The first band I caught this night were local rockers Any Given Sin and their sound was heavy with the rhythm section holding the thick groove and what sticks in my mind the most about the bands set was the bands raspy & soulful metal vocalist! The band did 2 off the wall covers that surprised me: “Twilight Zone” by Golden Earring & “Born To Be Wild” by Steppenwolf, both of which were played in a pure metal fashion.

Skitzo Calypso were next and they played a solid set of modern hard rock complete with a cool cover of “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N Roses. There was a running joke this night concerning Skittles because the band had asked their fans to bring them Sour Skittles & sure enough there were bags of candy Skittles being handed to the band....on a personal note I handed Brad a bag just before their set as well and Brad joked with me after their set that he had eaten so many Skittles that he’d probably be diabetic by the end of the night!

Eye Empire took the stage to rock the crowd with a set that featured a hand full o’ new songs alongside older tracks and to the bands credit they always deliver a solid performance that’s somewhere between nu-metal & modern rock...Eye Empire can be a little generic at times but overall the band does a good job of entertaining the crowd with their brand of aggressive hard rock music.
