12/24/1945 - 12/28/2015
I was listening to Motorhead's cover of “Sympathy For The Devil” on my drive to work and thinking to myself
“Man, Lemmy’s performance reminds me oddly enough of Johnny Cash’s performance of “Hurt” because you can hear a frail quality to both of their vocals in those songs. It’s almost as if you know the end isn’t too far off.”
I also realized just how well Lemmy liberated that Stone’s cover and made it his “own” due in part to his vocal tone which came off darker than Mick Jagger’s performance.
I had no clue that about 10 hours after I made this realization that Lemmy would no longer be amongst us.
Lemmy Kilmister leaves behind a musical legacy that influenced EVERY heavy metal band past, present, and future.
Lemmy was the real deal and they don’t make them like that anymore.
RIP Lemmy, your legacy will live on forever.
As my way of paying tribute to Motorhead & Lemmy I present to you a rare gem direct from the Rock N Roll Experience Vaults……”Ace of Spades” performed live on 9/18/08.
