THE STRUTS / GRETA VAN FLEET

5/19/17

Baltimore, MD

Rams Head Live

Greta Van Fleet are a Michigan based band and 3 (guitar, bass, vocals) of the 4 members are brothers.  Lead singer Josh Kiszka took the stage this night with painted on cat whiskers and a flowered 70’s styled shirt.  Vocally his range is reminiscent of Robert Plant and his stage banter was minimal which allowed the band maximum time to rock.

Jacob Kiszka played Gibson SG’s throughout the bands set and his tone was pure arena rock.  The vibe of the band is distinctly blues based 70’s rock and their style fits their sound quite well.

Greta Van Fleet are young (ages range from 18-21) yet they have old souls that pay tribute to rock gods of the past. Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Jimi Hendrix are clear influences on Greta Van Fleet.

The Struts are a glam rock explosion and lead singer Luke Spiller prances around the stage like true rock royalty.  The best way to describe Luke is that he’s a modern day version of Freddie Mercury!  Lead guitarist Adam Slack looks like Rich Robinson these days and his solid rhythm playing gives the band their chunky tone.  The rhythm section truly holds The Struts overall tone together, but undeniably Luke is the center of all attention when The Struts perform.
