Tales From The Porn (Stevie & Bento)

By Bob Suehs

TALES FROM THE PORN are a Brazilian based glam rock band with an American singer named Stevie Rachelle who you may know as the lead singer for TUFF.

The band has a kick ass record titled “H.M.M.V” which drops on September 15, 2017 and for those not familiar with Tales From The Porn, they are a raunchy, in your face, real deal rock band that’s carrying the torch for hair metal in 2017!

We had the opportunity to chat with bassist Bento Mello and singer Stevie Rachelle and here’s what they had to say:

Rock N Roll Experience:   Is the band name "Tales From The Porn" an ode to "Tales From The Crypt"?

Bento: Yes it is! Andy came up with the idea because he’s a huge fan of the series and the porn came from his other work. He owns an adult film company.

Rock N Roll Experience:  Is glam/sleaze rock popular in Brazil?

Bento: Some bands were very popular back in the day but not today. A few years ago we had a cool scene happening here in São Paulo but it was very underground. We are trying to reset this scene here right now.

Rock N Roll Experience: How did you hook up with Stevie Rachelle?

Bento: Andy came up with the idea to have someone from 80’s scene to sing so we could achieve a higher level with the music. So we got this common friend Veridiana that lived in LA and knew Stevie. Andy spoke to her and she made the first contact. From this point the things started to work.

Rock N Roll Experience:  Stevie lives in America and the band is based out of Brazil,  will there be any USA shows at all?

Bento: That’s the plan. We will begin to put this on after our first tour here in Brazil. Hope we can make it at some point in 2018.

Stevie: I would hope if the guys come to Hollywood at some point we could rock the world famous "Whisky-A-Go-Go" which we shout out in the lyrics to the band's theme song "Tales From The Porn".

Rock N Roll Experience:  Do you like modern rock?

Bento: Speaking for me and Andy definitely not. But it does not mean we do not like new bands. We like new bands specially those who got the 80’s metal vibe. Some bands from the last few years that we like are Crashdïet, Crazy Lixx, H.E.A.T among others.

Stevie:  I'm a fan of all music...new and old. But I don't have the same passion today for music, as I did when I was a teen or in my 20's. But I must admit, the guys early demo tracks for these songs lit a little fire for me. I am excited as to what we've created so far.

Rock N Roll Experience:  The song "Tales From The Porn" is a lewd, nasty ode to all things decadent, is there a story behind that track?

Bento: As almost all the other tracks we worked first as a band to create the song based on Andy’s riffs. Then we asked Stevie to create the lyrics based on us and on the vibe that we want to pass with this work. Stevie made an amazing job creating the lyrics and melody. I think he captured perfectly what we wanted and it is an awesome catchy song.

Stevie: The guys sent me several (4-5) songs with virtually no lyric or melody. Which I asked them to do at some point. This track the only thing they said was "We want this one to be called Tales From The Porn". I took that and sat with it...listening to it over and over. Like the others. But at some point the heavy riff had me saying, singing "Hey Motherfucker, You, Motherfucker, We Motherfucker.." and so on. Sounds silly but that hook just flowed from my vulgar mouth, Lol. Then at some point I started to write the idea about US, the band, this is who WE are. I even wrote Andy and asked, "Hey, WHO is all in the band? What are their names, and what do they play?" At some point he said Bento Mello on bass, Ed on drums, etc.. And hence the line, "Ed rocking drums, Mello on the bass, Andy shredding guitars in your fucking face!:"

That's my story on it..and I love the way this song came out. Possibly a good solid opening live song.

Rock N Roll Experience:  What are some of your favorite horror movies?

Bento: Friday The 13th I to VIII, Nightmare On Elm Street I, II, III and Lost Boys.

Stevie: I'm not a Horror movie guy, But I do remember the Excorcist as a kid, and to this day, I don't think many can touch that.

Rock N Roll Experience:  What made you decide to cover "Danger Zone"?

Bento: Andy got a special connection with this song. He first listened on Top Gun movie when he was a child and when he began to playing it was one of the first songs he ever learned. So he came up with the idea and we thought if we could gave her a heavy metal approach it would be a perfect fit in the album. So we decided and recorded very close to the original but with the TFTP’s vibe.

Stevie: This was the guys idea. And I was a little nervous, as Kenny Loggins has a much higher vocal register than I do. But in the end, I pulled it off. I think this track came out killer.

Rock N Roll Experience:  What is the bands biggest accomplishment to date?

Bento:  For now the biggest one was finish this album. Everybody in the band got careers with other bands and projects so it was not easy to conclude this work. It took a while. But now it’s time to work and we hope to accomplish lots of good things. First we will start releasing a lyric video, then the entire album, and then schedule our first tour here in Brazil with a video shoot for our first videoclip. After that we will make the plans for the USA and EU.

Stevie: Making this album! Soon...we will hopefully be doing shows in Brazil. And I am excited for the band to see some press the same. It's an exciting time for TFTP.
