The Gaslight Anthem built a large following by churning out consistency when it came to recording music and touring.  Brian Fallon and company have an intense underground fanbase and while their shows always sell out, The Gaslight Anthem have been on hiatus until recently.

Formed 2006 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, The Gaslight Anthem have 5 studio records under their belt and have toured the world performing to millions of fans worldwide.  In 2015 the band went on indefinite hiatus and it’s collective members went their separate ways.

May 27, 2018 at the 9:30 Club in DC was the first night of their reunion tour where they would perform the “59 Sound” record in it’s entirety.  The venue was sold out and packed in tight.  Opening the show was Tim Barry.

Tim Barry performed a solo, one man acoustic set and while his performance was good the standing room only crowd seemed a tad bored with Mr. Barry’s performance at times.

Matt Mays was second on the bill and their set was like an amped up version of Tom Petty rounded out by 3 guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards.

The Gaslight Anthem took the stage at 9:25 PM and performed a solid 90 minute set which started with several fan favorites before they started on the “59 Sound” record.

Fallon seemed happy to be onstage and at one point he joked with a kid that wore an opposing sports team hat.

Drummer Benny Horowitz makes the best faces while drumming and held down the rhythm with bassist Alex Levine while Fallon and Rosamilia anchored the guitar parts.  Touring guitarist Ian Perkins filled out the triple guitar attack thus creating a wall of sound.

The floor was general admission but the fans were divided into 3 proper groups.  The left side was there to watch the show and avoid moshing, the right side was there to sing, dance, and have fun while avoiding the crowd surfing.  The center of the crowd was where the true animals were because the center was nothing but moshing, crowd surfing, and featured the true rabid Gaslight Anthem fans.  In random moments throughout the night fans would raise hand made signs with lyrics from Gaslight songs written on them and it’s impossible to explain how devoted the Gaslight fanatics truly are.

Most of the crowd were singing every single lyric to every single song and it was obvious that the Gaslight fans were in their glory watching them perform.

When Gaslight were finished with the “59 Sound” record they performed 9 more songs which included their breakthrough hit “45”.

Fans that attended this performance were treated to rare merch at the merch booth which included a limited edition poster, limited edition 9:30 Club pin, and limited edition 9:30 Club shirt which were only sold at this performance.

When the show ended Brian thanked the crowd and vowed to all attending the next nights performance that the set list would be completely different.
