Anne Arundel, MD
The Hall at MD Live! is the latest addition to the MD Live Casino in Arundel Mills. The Hall holds 4,800 people with three levels of seating. The venue is larger than the Maryland MGM Grand’s theater which holds 3,000 and recently hosted Aerosmith.
Baltimore’s Horseshoe casino is building a theatre of their own, “The Paramount” which is an 80,000 square feet event venue.
Anne Arundel county are giving The Hall and MD Live! hotel a waiver for 30 years on local property tax. In exchange the venue made a promise to make the space available for community events as well as local high school and community college graduation ceremonies.
The Hall hosted a “burn in” pre opening with 2 free shows prior to the grand opening.
December 29 featured a free show by Charm City Devils and Rosabella. The venue looked amazing and was actually too nice for a hard rock show. Security was in place, made sure the patrons were well taken care of, and for this particular show the venue was clearly overstaffed in the security area.
Three large jumbo screens gave the venue a large arena feel but clearly there are bugs to be worked out because the videos shook with every bass boom from the drums which made the visuals shaky.
Charm City Devils debuted new material alongside classics from their first three records. Lead singer John Allen was recovering from a two week cold but you could never tell based upon the performance he delivered. The new members of the band offer a different energy; this version of the band is very different than the previous version. Covers of "I Got Mine" by The Black Keys and "Highway To Hell" by AC/DC were performed alongside the bands original material.
Overall it was a fun show and already announced performers for the venue include Adam Sandler, Squeeze, Patti LaBelle, Josh Groban, and Air Supply.
